The DCF-77 radio time transmission is a time and frequency reference broadcast near Frankfurt, Central Germany.
The range of the DCF-77 transmission covers the whole of Germany. The DCF-77 time signal can also be received throughout much of Western and Central Europe, including the UK, France and the Nordic Countries.
The advantage of using a radio time transmission. such asDCF-77, as a time reference is that generally a good signal can be received indoors close to the host computer or time server. GPS ideally requires a roof mounted antenna, with the associated inconvenience of installing it.
